BEATRICE

An elegy

From the song cycle 15 PHOTOS

BEATRICE was performed and filmed at the Tomhannock Reservoir, March 14, 2021 from 2:30pm-3:20pm.

It's hard not to think about scale when I think about singing the same song for so many years, especially one about old age.
Being one very eager to produce as fast as possible, this project is a chance to slow down and commit to a years-long process one hour at a time.
The video will change every so often, rerecorded with my older voice, performed by my older body, with only two conceits: each time a new location of a similar waterscape and each time significantly longer than the last time. My hope is to do a 24 hour performance before I get too old to move.

Beatrice
'It's too late for me, my love,' she said
Beatrice laid by the boat
'It's too late for me, my love,' she said
Laid by the boatman
'It's too late for me, my love,' she said
Myself frail but to watch her
'It's too late for me, my love,' she said
Myself frail but to watch her drift
'It's too late for me, my love,' she said
Myself frail but to watch her
'Drift while you stay friend,' he said
'Not without my wife,' I said
'It's too late for me, my love,' she said
'Not without my wife,' I said
